If you work from home, it’s important to check you have the right insurance in place.

We all know that insurance companies will do everything in their power to reduce or reject an insurance claim and this is more than ever is important to check if your home insurance policy covers you for working at home.

Depending on the profession or trade you’re in, you may find you’re not sufficiently covered under the terms of your existing policy and may need to take out a dedicated or add on business policy.

When we all take out insurance one of the statements all companies make is if your circumstances change you need to notify them, failing to do so could void your policy at a time when you really need it.

If you’re thinking of working from home, you should check what you are covered for under the terms of your existing home insurance policy.

Some home contents insurance policies (not buildings insurance) provide cover for ‘administration’ duties, while others won’t cover any items that are used for ‘business or professional purposes’.

If you’re employed and occasionally take work home, or work from home on specified days, it is again worth checking through your policy document to see if there’s anything you won’t be covered for or anything you need to let your insurer know about.

With the rush for working at home due to Covid-19 insurance companies are failing to provide the information to their clients (you) about how this could affect your insurance.

Don’t wait until it is too late to find out you are not covered, check your insurance today!
